Men’s Basketball Team Falls to Goshen (Ind.), 88-80, in Championship Game of Wilmington (Ohio) Tournament
The Olivet College men's basketball team fell to Goshen (Ind.) College, 88-80, in the championship game of the Wilmington (Ohio) College Fred Raizk Tip-Off Tournament. With the loss, the Comets' record drops to 1-1 overall while Goshen improves its record to 6-3 overall. For his efforts in the tournament, junior forward Mike Dyson (Kalamazoo/ Loy Norrix High School) was selected to the all-tourney team.
WILMINGTON, OHIO -- The Olivet College men's basketball team fell to Goshen (Ind.) College, 88-80, in the championship game of the Wilmington (Ohio) College Fred Raizk Tip-Off Tournament. With the loss, the Comets' record drops to 1-1 overall while Goshen improves its record to 6-3 overall. For his efforts in the tournament, junior forward Michael Dyson (Kalamazoo/ Loy Norrix High School) was selected to the all-tourney team.
The Comets jumped out to an eight point lead on two different occasions early in the first half with the last time being 18-10 with 13:07 left. After Goshen knotted the score at 30-all, Olivet went on a 7-0 run before taking a 42-37 halftime lead.
Goshen used a 29-10 run over the first 10 minutes of the second half to stretch its lead to as many 14 points at 66-52. The Comets tried to come back but could only close the deficit to five points with 3:29 left.
Despite the loss, Dyson led Olivet with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Patrick Dermeyer (Chase/ Reed City High School) and sophomore Ronnie Pearson (Holly High School) chipped in with 15 points apiece.
Olivet will next play on Tuesday, Nov. 26 when it hosts Tri-State (Ind.) University in a non-league game at Upton Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
