Men’s Basketball Team Falls to MIAA Rival Albion College, 79-68
The Olivet College men's basketball team ended the first-half of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play with a 79-68 loss against Albion College tonight at the Upton Center.
OLIVET, MI. -- The Olivet College men's basketball team ended the first-half of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play with a 79-68 loss against Albion College tonight at the Upton Center.
After Albion took a 5-0 lead, Olivet (10-9, 2-4 MIAA) battled back and tied the score at 7-7. The Britons then stretched their lead to seven points. The Comets then took their only lead of the game at 24-23 when sophomore Ronnie Pearson (Holly High School) made a layup at the 4:39 mark. In the second half, Pearson made a layup with 5:20 left to cut the deficit to one point at 58-57, but the Comets were not able to take the lead or tie the score for the remainder of the game.
Senior forward Michael Dyson (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix High School) led Olivet with 17 points. Pearson added 16 points and senior forward Terrance Stewart (Muskegon Heights High School) had 15. Pearson also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Michael Thomas paced the Britons (15-4, 4-2) with 20 points. Brett Quayle and Joe Finland joined Thomas in double figures with 19 and 13 points, respectively. Travis DePree grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Olivet is idle until next Wednesday, Feb. 5 when it travels to Grand Rapids to play Calvin College at 7:30 p.m.
