Men's basketball team loses to Alma, 76-61

The Olivet College men's basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Alma College, 76-61, this evening at Cappaert Gymnasium.
The Fighting Comets (10-11, 4-5 MIAA) jumped out to a 13-4 lead at the 12:17 mark of the first half. The Scots cut the deficit to one point, 20-19, with 5:23 left. Olivet had a 27-24 lead at halftime. Alma opened the second stanza with an 8-2 run to take its first lead of the game. Following a 33-33 tie, the Scots scored the next point of the game and never looked back. They led by as many as 17 points twice in the final minute of the contest.
Senior point guard Travis Schellhammer (Grand Ledge High School) led Olivet with 13 points and five assists. Sophomore forward De'Andre Pruitt (River Rouge High School) added 10 points. Freshman Andy Storey (Battle Creek/Harper Creek High School) grabbed a team-best six rebounds. He also blocked two shots, which gives him 38 this season to tie the school single-season record set during the 2001-02 season by Patrick Dermeyer.
Olivet will next be in action on Wednesday, Feb. 11 when it hosts Calvin College. Tip-off from the Upton Center is 7:30 p.m.
Eric Jones topped the Scots with a game-high 19 points. Anthony Jones and Carlton Hill had 16 and 10 points, respectively. Domonick Allen came off the bench and pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.
