The Olivet College men's basketball team defeated Anderson (Ind.) University, 70-65, this afternoon in the 20th Annual AU/Marsh Invitational at the O.C. Lewis Gymnasium. Senior De'Andre Pruitt (River Rouge) was named the invitational's MVP. Sophomore Jeff Cooper (Dowagiac) and senior Gerald Dozie (Detroit/Southeastern) joined him on the all-tournament team.
Due to a scheduling error by Anderson, the Comets' jayvee team played Miami-Middletown (Ohio) College in the other first round game.
After Olivet opened the game with an 8-0 run, the Ravens answered with a 12-0 run to take a 12-8 lead. Senior Greg Ravy (New Orleans, La./L.B. Landry) scored the next five points to give the Comets a 13-12 lead. Pruitt then nailed three straight three-pointers for a 22-18 Olivet lead. Like earlier in the game, Anderson responded with a 14-2 run to take its biggest lead of the half and eventually lead 37-31 at halftime.
Cooper hit three consecutive three-point baskets to key an 11-2 Olivet run to start the second half. The last triple gave the Comets a 42-39 lead. This time, the Ravens did not answer, tying the game three times and did not take a lead.
For the fourth consecutive game, Dozie posted a double-double. Tonight, he tallied 22 points and 11 rebounds. Pruitt added 16 points, including four three-pointers. Cooper contributed 14 points.
For Anderson, J.D. Clampitt also had a double-double, 23 points and 12 rebounds. Nick Rogers and Ian Lafferty scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Olivet continues its non-conference schedule Tuesday, Nov. 29, when it travels to play Madonna University at 7:30 p.m.
