Three Olivet College basketball players earn 2008 All-MIAA second-team honors
Three Olivet College basketball players -- senior Amy Brackenwagen (Grand Ledge), junior Brandon McClary (Bellaire) and freshman Michael McClary (Bellaire) -- have earned 2008 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) second-team honors. All-MIAA honors are based on a players’ statistics during league play.
Three Olivet College basketball players -- senior Amy Brackenwagen (Grand Ledge), junior Brandon McClary (Bellaire) and freshman Michael McClary (Bellaire) -- have earned 2008 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) second-team honors. All-MIAA honors are based on a players' statistics during league play.
Brackenwagen, a 2007 second-team All-MIAA selection, ranked among the MIAA leaders in assists (1st, 78), steals (3rd, 38) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2nd, 1.59). In addition, she ended her four-year career at Olivet as its all-time leader in assists (364).
In MIAA play, Brandon McClary was second in scoring (16.7 ppg), third in rebounding (8.1 rpg), sixth in field goal percentage (53.7 percent), third in blocked shots (18) and first in offensive rebounds (48). Michael McClary averaged a double-double in league play (11.5 ppg and 10.4 rpg). In the league rankings, he was the leader in blocked shots (22) and second in rebounding.
Led by first-year Head Coach Heather Bateman, the Comet women finished the 2007-08 season with a 9-16 overall record and was fifth in the MIAA with a 7-9 record. Under the direction of first-year Head Coach Gene Gifford, the Olivet men also had a 9-16 overall record and tied for fifth in the MIAA with a 5-9 record.
