Ashley named MIAA Player of the Week, named to D3hoops.com Team of the Week
Olivet College junior Alvino Ashley (Detroit/Martin Luther King) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week for men’s basketball. In addition, he has been named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week.
OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College junior Alvino Ashley (Detroit/Martin Luther King) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week for men's basketball. In addition, he has been named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week.
Ashley averaged 29 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, as the Comets split two MIAA games last week. In an 85-74 loss at Kalamazoo College Feb. 1, he scored 22 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and recorded six assists. Ashley followed that performance with a career-best 36 points to go along with 10 rebounds and four assists, while committing zero turnovers in an 88-86 win at Alma College Feb. 4. For the week, he made 22-of-34 baskets (64.7 percent) and 14-of-18 free throws (77.8 percent) for his 58 points.
In 10 MIAA games, Ashley leads the league in scoring at 18.0 points per game (ppg) and rebounding at 7.7 rebounds per game (rpg). Overall, in 19 games played, he is tied for first in rebounding (7.1 rpg) and second in scoring (16.5 ppg).
Olivet will host Adrian College Wednesday night. Tip-off from The Cutler Event Center is 7:30 p.m.
