Olivet College’s Ashley named second-team All-MIAA
Olivet College junior forward Alvino Ashley (Detroit/Martin Luther King) has earned 2011-12 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) second-team honors for men’s basketball.
OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College junior forward Alvino Ashley (Detroit/Martin Luther King) has earned 2011-12 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) second-team honors for men's basketball. All-league honors are based on a player's statistics during the 14-game MIAA schedule.
Ashley started all 14 games for the Comets, averaged 15.5 points per game (ppg) and 7.4 rebounds per game (rpg). Those averages placed him fourth among the MIAA leaders. He was also in the top 10 in steals (19), steals per game (1.36), offensive rebounds (30), defensive rebounds (73) and minutes played (31.93). Ashley's single-game highs were 36 points at Alma College Feb. 4 and 14 rebounds at Kalmaazoo College Feb. 1.
For the entire 25-game schedule, Ashley started 19-of-23 games and led Olivet in scoring (15.3 ppg) and rebounding (7.0 rpg). He also shot a team-best 47.6 percent (141-of-296), and was second in assists (63) and steals (26).
