OLIVET, Mich. – Last Friday, Dec. 13, the Olivet College middle school boys could not use their own gym for physical education class due to an activity taking place in it. Instead of going without class for the day, the boys were bussed over to The Cutler Event Center on Olivet College's campus.
Once inside the gym, the Olivet College basketball teams ran a clinic for the boys. The first part of the clinic featured five stations where the children performed dribbling, passing, shooting and defense drills. After that, a one vs. one contest took place between freshman seven-foot post player Adam Rayner and seventh grader Colton Graves, the shortest boy, at the clinic. The last part was a series of fun relays, games and contests.
"The clinic was a great thing," said Olivet College Assistant Men's Basketball Coach Chris Watz. "We hope to be able to do something in future for the Olivet middle school girls. This is also just a start of our men's team reaching out and performing community service in the Olivet community. In January, our players will begin the Olivet CAN Club where they will be interacting with elementary and middle school students in the Olivet Community Schools."
