Men’s basketball team defeated by Calvin, 83-63
The Olivet College men’s basketball team fell to Calvin College, 83-63, tonight at Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College men's basketball team fell to Calvin College, 83-63, tonight at Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids.
The Knights built a lead as big as 20 points, 41-21, in the first half. The Comets closed the half on a 7-2 run to trail by 15 points, 43-28, at the break. Olivet continued the run to start the second half and were only down 11 points, 45-34, at the 18:48 mark.
Calvin scored four straight points to push its lead back to 15, 49-34, with 16:22 left in the second half. The Comets chipped away at their deficit and were only behind by seven points, 66-59, at the 7:11 mark. The Knights scored 17 of the final 21 points of the game to create their final margin of victory.
Freshman R.J. Haas (Albion) scored 15 points to lead Olivet. Junior Blake Krum (Schoolcraft) and sophomore T.J. Vondette (Hemlock) each had 12 points. Krum also posted team-highs in rebounds (8), assists (6) and steals (2).
For Calvin, Jordan Daley led all scorers with 22 points. Tyler Kruis and Tyler Dykstra finished with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Kruis grabbed a team-leading eight rebounds.
The Comets will end their season Saturday when they host Trine (Ind.) University at 3 p.m.
