FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College senior Tracy Edmond and junior Trevor Manuel have earned 2019 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) First Team honors for men's basketball. All-conference honors are based on a player's performance during the 14-game conference schedule.
Under the tutelage of third-year head coach Steve Ernst, the Comets were a part of a three-way tie for third-place in the MIAA standings with an 8-6 record. Using tiebreakers, Olivet gained the third seed in the MIAA Tournament and will host Alma College in the first round tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
Edmond started 11 MIAA games and averaged 20.5 points per game, and ranked among the league leaders with 78 total assists and 20 steals. In 22 total games this year, Edmond is averaging 18.3 points per game, leads the team with 143 assists and tied for the team lead with 37 steals. His single-game scoring high was 27 points in an 85-81 win at Calvin College on Jan. 23. Edmond is a repeat selection, as he also earned All-MIAA First Team honors in 2018.
Manuel was the MIAA scoring champion at 21.1 points per game and was second in rebounding at 8.8 rebounds per game. In 25 games, Manuel has a 20.6 scoring average and 9.0 rebounding average. He has scored in double figures in all except one game, with a high of 31 points against Greenville (Ill.) University. Manuel has already broken Olivet's single-season record with 60 blocks, and his 514 total points is tied for sixth.
The winner of tomorrow's MIAA Tournament first round game will advance to play No. 2 seed Albion College in the semifinals. That game will be played Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the MTI Center in Angola, Indiana. The MIAA Tournament championship game is Saturday at 5 p.m.
