Men’s basketball team loses 88-80 to Capital
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men’s basketball team dropped an 88-80 decision to Capital (Ohio) University in its final non-conference game of the season this afternoon at the Cutler Event Center.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's basketball team dropped an 88-80 decision to Capital (Ohio) University in its final non-conference game of the season this afternoon at the Cutler Event Center.

Records: Capital 7-3 overall, Olivet 3-8 overall
- In the first 15 minutes of the game, neither team led by more than four points. Olivet took a six-point lead, 29-23, at the 4:46 mark when senior Dane Vos made a fast-break layup. Olivet extended its lead to eight points three minutes later, 38-30, on senior Tevin Ali's slam dunk. Capital put the final seven points on the scoreboard to trail by a point, 38-37, at the break.
- Olivet pushed its lead back to eight points, 48-40, after another Ali dunk with 17:10 left. Capital answered with a 23-7 run over the next five minutes to take its own eight-point lead, 63-55. Olivet battled back with an 8-2 run to trim its deficit down to two points, 65-63, but would not get any closer for the rest of the game.
- For the game, Olivet shot a slightly better field goal percentage, 57.1 to 56.7 percent. Both teams made 14 free throws. The difference in the game was Capital sank 14 three-pointers compared to four for Olivet.
- Four starters reached double figures in the scoring column, and two of them had double digits in another stat for a double-double.
- Ali and freshman Patrick Hollis each scored 20 points.
- Junior Noah Wiswary netted 14 points.
- Making his first collegiate start, sophomore Ryan Bart tallied 13 points, including 3-of-5 shooting from distance.
- Hollis grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
- Wiswary dished out 11 assists.
- "I thought our guys played really hard," said Olivet head men's basketball coach Sam Hargraves. "I am really proud of our effort against a well-coached and classy program. We just need to do cut down our self-imposed turnovers as well do a better job at making our free throws."
- David Sanford led all scorers with 23 points, including six three-pointers.
- Ryan Roth contributed 20 points.
- Tyler Schreck had 11 points and seven rebounds.
- The Comets open Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play Wednesday night at Adrian College. Tip-off from the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center is 7:30 p.m.
