Conner Schipper ready to embark on international trip to Netherlands and Belgium
OLIVET, Mich. – Rising sophomore men's basketball player Conner Schipper from The University of Olivet will be heading overseas for games and networking August 7.
Conner was first approached by a coach in Louisiana about an international trip to Croatia. The coach was looking for players on Synergy (video sharing application program) and came across Conner. The coach texted him to see if would be interested in playing and he agreed to it.
That coach left his school to take another job and told Conner the trip was cancelled but connected him with Roy Blumenthal, the president of Global Sports Academy (GSA) and head coach at Rider (N.J.) University. Roy reached out to Conner about the upcoming GSA trip this summer he was planning himself to the Netherlands, and Belgium. Conner agreed to play in the games.
A 2024 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Second Team honoree, Conner leaves for Amsterdam, Netherlands on Wednesday, August 7. While there, he will play five games in Amsterdam (August 9), Antwerp (August 10), Brussels (August 11), Brugge (August 12) and Hasselt (August 13). Game times are being finalized, as well as the order of games may change.
"I am excited for this big opportunity," said Conner. "I am hoping it gets my foot in the door so to speak because after graduating from Olivet, I would like to be able to play basketball overseas. These games will give me a chance to network and get my name out there. There will be FIBA agents at the games, as well as after the games, we will have dinner with the players from our opponents. That will give us a chance to pick their brains about what it takes play internationally."
