UOlivet drops 94-68 game to No. 4 WashU
HOLLAND, Mich. – The University of Olivet men's basketball team fell to Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.), 94-68, in its second game of the Glenn Van Wieren Classic, hosted by Hope College and played inside the DeVos Fieldhouse. The Bears are ranked No. 4 in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. For their performances over the last two days, juniors Nathan Richardson and Conner Schipper was named to the All-Tournament team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bears scored the first six points of the game. The Comets answered with seven straight points to go up 7-6. The teams traded baskets to keep the margin at one point, 9-8, at the 15:31 mark. WashU responded with four consecutive three-pointers in a span of two minutes to gain a 20-9 lead. The Bears extended their lead to 13 points twice. After the second time at 36-23, Olivet used a 5-0 spurt to close the gap to eight points with 2:03 left until halftime. WashU scored five of the next seven points. Freshman Sean Shenker made a long three-pointer at the halftime buzzer to make the score 41-33 at the break.
- The Comets made the first basket of the second half. After that, the Bears went on a 17-7 run to stretch their advantage to 16 points, 58-44. Olivet fought back to close the gap to 12 points on two occasions. The Comets did not get any closer for the remainder of the game.
- For the game, Olivet posted a 45.6 field goal percentage (26-of-57) compared to 51.7 percent (31-of-60) for WashU. The Bears drained eight more three-pointers, 16 to eight, and eight more free throws, 16 to eight.
FOR THE COMETS
- Schipper scored a team-leading 22 points.
- Richardson joined him in double figures with 11 points. He also had four assists.
- Sophomores Porter Kretschman and Mike Okello grabbed six rebounds apiece.

- Olivet begins Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play next Wednesday, January 7, when it hosts Albion College. Tip-off from the Cutler Event Center is 7 p.m.
