OLIVET, Mich. – Junior Nathan Richardson scored his 1000th career point, and The University of Olivet men's basketball team routed Alma College, 90-62, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest tonight at the Cutler Event Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • There were six lead changes in the first six minutes of the game. The Scots led 11-8 before a three-pointer by freshman Levi Stambaugh rattled through the rim to tie the score at the 12:21 mark. Alma took the lead back with a layup at the other end of the court. Olivet responded with a 12-0 run for a 10-point lead, 23-13, with 6:42 left until halftime. At the 3:59 mark, Richardson became the 15th player in school history to score 1,000 points.
  • In the first half, the Comet lead grew to 17 points before the Scots scored the final three points of the half to trail, 38-24, at the break. Olivet's advantage in the second half swelled to as many as 30 points, 77-47, with 6:53 left in the game.
  • For the game, the Comets posted a 49.3 field goal percentage compared to 38.0 percent for the Scots. Olivet made two more baskets from behind the arc, but Alma drained 19 free throws to nine for the Comets. Olivet had a 42-36 edge in rebounds, and committed seven less turnovers, six to 13. The Comets tallied 25 assists on 37 made baskets.

FOR THE COMETS

  • Five players reached double figures in the scoring column.
  • Sophomore Sam Howard came off the bench to score a team-high 16.
  • Junior Lee Hardy finished with 14 points.
  • Junior Conner Schipper was next with 13 points. He grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
  • Richardson and sophomore Porter Kretschman each scored 11 points.
  • Richardson also dished out eight assists, made three steals and did not have a turnover in 30 minutes.
