Men’s golf finishes in third-place Lou Collins Memorial Tournament
Freshman Kory Roberts tied for third-place in the individual standings, and the Olivet College men’s golf team finished in third-place at the 2011 Lou Collins Memorial Tournament.
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Freshman Kory Roberts (Battle Creek/Lakeview) tied for third-place in the individual standings, and the Olivet College men's golf team finished in third-place at the 2011 Lou Collins Memorial Tournament. The two-day, 36-hole event was played at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.
The Comets shot a two-round total of 603 strokes (298-305). Calvin College won the tournament with a 597 team score, followed by Wheaton (Ill.) College in second at 601. The rest of the top 10 schools were Madonna University in fourth, 606; followed by Hope College, 612; Alma College, 615; Owens Community College, 620; Adrian College, 623; Albion College, 632; and Trine (Ind.) University, 634. Vince Carango from Madonna was the tournament medalist with a two-round total of 139 strokes.
After shooting a 72 in Friday's first round, Roberts had a 75 in today's round for a 147. Sophomore Nick Julian (Clinton Twp./Chippewa Valley) was a part of tie for 10th-place with a 151 (73-78). Junior Justin Ardelean (Owosso) was one stroke behind at 152, including a team-best 73 in today's second round. Senior Cameron Sich (Saginaw/Frankenmuth) carded a 157 (78-79), while junior Ronnie Fesko (Henderson/Owosso) needed 158 (75-83) total strokes to complete his two rounds.
Olivet will now begin Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play Thursday, Sept. 8, at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall. Each of the eight MIAA schools will host a league jamboree on their home course. The school with the lowest cumulative total will win the 2011 MIAA Championship.
