Pier earns medalist honors at Lou Collins Memorial Tournament

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Led by freshman Zachary Pier's medalist performance, The University of Olivet men's golf team finished eighth at its home tournament, the Lou Collins Memorial Tournament held at the Bedford Valley Country Club.

- After shooting a 324 team score in Friday's first round, the Comets shaved 13 strokes off their total in today's second round for a 311 to give them a two-round score of 635 strokes.
- Pier was the individual medalist with an even par 144 two-round total.
- Trine (Ind.) University captured the team title with a 603 (299-304).
- Pier was one over par (73) in Friday's opening round and shot a one-under par 71 in today's second round. In the first round, he had five birdies, eight pars, four bogies and one double bogey. Pier followed that with six birdies, seven pars and five bogies in the second round. He is the first Olivet golfer to be the Lou Collins Tournament medalist since 2008 when Brock Gleadall had the low score at 143 (74-69).
- Freshman Bradon Ellis carded a two-day score of 158 (82-76) strokes.
- Senior Connor Jewell shot a 162 (82-80).
- Sophomore Brady Applegate was next at 171 (87-84).
- Olivet also had a "B" team compete. Sophomore Noah LaValley led that group with a 165 (79-86), followed by senior Dylan Beck at 166 (85-81).
- Freshman Connor Bergeon was one of two individual scorers for the Comets and finished with a 166 (83-83).
