Two student-athletes named MIAA Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Olivet College junior Corey Evans (Mason) and sophomore DeRan Thomas (Detroit/Harper Woods Notre Dame) have been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Co-Defensive Player of the Week for men’s soccer and football, respectively.

Evans, who shares the honor with Hope College's Phil Lepper, led the Comet defense that won two MIAA contests last week, 2-1 at Adrian College Sept. 21 and 3-0 at Tri-State (Ind.) University Sept. 24. He also scored a goal in the win at Tri-State. For the season, he has scored five points (two goals and one assist).
Evans and the Comets (3-5, 2-0 MIAA) are next in action Tuesday, Sept. 27, when they host Kalamazoo College at 4 p.m.
Thomas, who shares the honor with Adrian College's Taz Wallace, helped Olivet beat non-conference foe Manchester (Ind.) University, 40-7, Sept. 24. Thomas recorded 15 tackles, including 11 solo stops. He also returned a block punt 17 yards for a touchdown. For the season, Thomas leads the team with 35 tackles, including 4.5 stops for loss yardage.
Thomas and the Comets open MIAA play Saturday, Oct. 1, at Alma College. Kickoff from Bahlke Field is 1:30 p.m.
