Freshman Kevin Hagan (East Lansing) scored two goals, including the game-winner 52 seconds into the second overtime period, as the Olivet College men's soccer team beat Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Alma College, 2-1, this afternoon in Olivet.
Hagan tallied his first goal in the 77th minute off a pass from sophomore Alan Holdorf (Novi). The Scots (3-14, 2-11 MIAA) tied the game at 1-1 on a penalty kick goal with 48 seconds left in regulation. Alma appeared to have won the game as time expired, but the goal was waived off by the referees.
In the first overtime, the Scots had a 5-2 advantage in shots. The Comets (8-10-1, 7-5-1 MIAA) scored the game-winner when senior Gabe Pringle (Grand Blanc) blasted a free kick from 30 yards out. The Alma goalkeeper knocked the ball down to the feet of Hagan, who tapped the ball past him from close range.
For the game, Olivet scattered 24 shots among nine different players. Holdorf led the way with six, followed by Hagan with five and Pringle with three. In goal, senior Will Drogt (Kewadin/Elk Rapids) played the entire game, facing 15 shots and collecting four saves.
The Comets travel to play Albion College in their season-finale Saturday at 2 p.m. Olivet needs a win to take over third-place in the final MIAA standings, while a tie or Olivet loss gives Albion the third-place spot.
