Men's swim/dive team stands in fifth-place after first day of MIAA Championships
The Olivet College men’s swimming and diving team stands in fifth-place after the first day of competition at the 2004 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships at the East Grand Rapids High School Pool.
The Olivet College men’s swimming and diving team stands in fifth-place after the first day of competition at the 2004 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships at the East Grand Rapids High School Pool. The Fighting Comets tallied 77 points. Kalamazoo is the leader after day one with 166 points. Hope is the team leader after the first day with 185 points.
Leading the way for Olivet was freshman Levi Yockey (Phoenix, Ariz./North High School), who was fifth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:49.52. In the preliminaries, he was sixth and broke his school record (4:48.67).
In the 200 individual medley, Jon Cox (Battle Creek/Lakeview High School) finished in 12th (2:06.52). He did break his own school record in the preliminaries (2:04.80). After setting a school record in the prelims of the 50 free (22.10), Juan Aguirre (Queretaro, Mexico) placed ninth in the consolation finals (22.14).
Andy Weiss (Fremont High School) and Steve Dastoli (Kalamazoo Central High School) were fourth and sixth, respectively, in the one-meter dive competition. Weiss scored 397.10 points, and Dastoli had 363.55 points.
In the finals of the 200 free relay, Aguirre, Cox and Yockey teamed with Ananta Fetters (Fennville/Holland High School) to finish finish in fourth and break the school record (1:29.63). Aguirre, Fetters and Yockey joined Ben Guins (Lansing Eastern High School) in the 400 medley relay team to place fifth (3:40.03).
