Men's swimming/diving in fifth-place after second day of MIAA Championships

After the second of the 2004 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships, the Olivet College men’s swimming and diving team stands in fifth-place with 161 points. Albion College is third with 184, and Hope College leads the championships with 382 points.
The Fighting Comets broke the school record in every event contested today. Juan Aguirre (Queretaro, Mexico), Jon Cox, Ananta Fetters (Fennville/Holland High School) and Ben Guins (Lansing Eastern High School) placed fifth in the 200 medley relay (1:40.80). After breaking his own record by 5.3 seconds in the prelims of the 400 individual medley, Darren Hamman (Boksburg, South Africa) shaved another 6.55 seconds off the time in the consolation finals (4:38.14). Fetters was ninth in the 100 butterfly (54.62).
In the 200 freestyle, Levi Yockey (Phoenix, Ariz./North High School) placed fifth (1:45.16). Cox and Guins finished sixth and ninth, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke. Aguirre finished fourth in the 100 backstroke (55.96) and Brad Waddell (Holland/West Ottawa High School) was tenth (58.40).
Waddell, Hamman, Yockey and Andy Williams (Fenton High School) had a time of 7:40.45 in the 800 free relay.
Action at the MIAA Championships concludes tomorrow, Feb. 21 at the East Grand Rapids High School Pool. Preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m. with finals starting at 6 p.m.
