Men's swimming and diving team defeats Ohio Northern and Hiram (Ohio)
The Olivet College men’s swimming and diving team defeated Ohio Northern University, 88-25, at the ONU Sports Center in Ada, Ohio. The Fighting Comets also edged Hiram (Ohio) College, 56-55, with a win in the final event – 200 freestyle relay.

Freshman Andy Weiss (Fremont High School) captured first-place in the one- and three-meter diving competitions with scores of 236.60 and 204.90, respectively. Anata Fetters (Fennville/Holland High School) was first in the 100 butterfly (55.98). Levi Yockey (Phoenix, Ariz./North High School) finished first in the 200 freestyle (1:50.53). These three had times/scores that were tops against both schools.
John Johnson (Grand Blanc High School), Matt Powers (Kalamazoo Central High School), Paul Riha (East Grand Rapids High School) and Brad Waddell (Holland/West Ottawa High School) were first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:32.34).
The Comets also broke five school records: Juan Aguirre (Queretaro, Mexico) in the 100 backstroke (57.82), Jon Cox (Battle Creek/Lakeview High School) in the 200 IM (2:07.31), Ben Guins (Lansing Eastern High School) in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.29), Johnson in the 1,000 freestyle (10:17.75) and Yockey in the 100 freestyle (49.76).
Olivet is idle until January 10, 2004, when it travels to Holland to resume its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association schedule. The Comets will swim against Hope College and Alma College with action starting at 1 p.m.
