The men’s swimming and diving team beat Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Kalamazoo College, 150-85, today at the Kalamazoo College Natatorium.

Leading the way for the Fighting Comets was freshman Koji Takahashi (Etobicoke, Ontario/Silver Thorn CI), who won two individual events and swam the backstroke leg of the winning 200 medley relay. He had a time of 1:49.95 in the 200 freestyle and :53.90 in the 100 butterfly. Takahashi, Ananta Fetters (Fennville/Holland), Dustin Meisner (Temperance/Erie Mason) and Paul Riha (East Grand Rapids) had a time of 1:40.37 in the 200 medley relay.
Junior Steve Dastoli (Kalamazoo Central), freshman Brian Jaffee (Bowling Green, Ohio), freshman Mitch Powers (Kalamazoo/Central) and sophomore Brad Waddell (Holland/West Ottawa) had a first-place and a second-place finish each.
The first-place finishes were Dastoli in the one-meter dive (224.00), Jaffee in the 1,000 freestyle (10:28.59), Powers in the 100 freestyle (:49.24) and Waddell in the 100 backstroke (:57.92). The second-place finishes were Dastoli in the three-meter dive (194.75), Jaffee in the 500 freestyle (5:00.80), Powers in the 50 freestyle (:22.80) and Waddell in the 1,000 freestyle (10:30.28).
In addition, Powers and Waddell joined with Riha and Juan Aguirre (Queretaro, Mexico) for a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:29.57).
Fetters touched the wall second in the 400 individual medley (4:37.89) and 100 butterfly (:55.03). The remaining second-place finishers were Meisner in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.69), Andy Weiss (Fremont) in the one-meter dive (215.45) and Levi Yockey (Phoenix, Ariz./North) in the 100 backstroke (1:02.26).
The Comets are idle until the 2005 MIAA Championships Feb. 10-12, at the Holland Aquatic Center. Action begins each day with preliminaries at 10 a.m., followed by finals at 6 p.m.
