Men's swimming and diving finishes in second-place at 2005 MIAA Championships
The men’s swimming and diving team finished in second-place at the 2005 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships hosted by Hope College at the Holland Community Aquatic Center.
The men’s swimming and diving team finished in second-place at the 2005 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships hosted by Hope College at the Holland Community Aquatic Center. The Fighting Comets, who crowned their first-ever individual conference champion today, tallied 411 points. Hope College won the MIAA championship with 478.5 points while Kalamazoo was third (398).
Freshman Dustin Meisner (Erie/Mason) was the MIAA champion in the 200 breaststroke. He swam the race 2:05.62, which is a NCAA championships provisional qualifying time. Sophomore Ben Guins (Lansing/Eastern) was fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:10.75).
Freshman Brian Jaffee (Bowling Green, Ohio) broke the school record by more than 38 seconds en route to a second-place finish and a NCAA provisional time in the 1,650 freestyle (16:20.74). Freshman Jason Wheatley (Portage/Central) placed sixth in the 1,650 free (16.53.32).
In the 200 butterfly, freshman Koji Takahashi (Etbicoke, Ontario/Silver Thorn CI) and sophomore Ananta Fetters (Fennville/Holland) were second and fourth, respectively. Takahashi broke the school record as he clocked in at 1:56.82 while Fetters finished in 1:59.65.
Takahashi, Juan Aguirre (Queretaro, Mexico), Mitch Powers (Kalamaazoo/Central) and Paul Riha (East Grand Rapids) set a school record and was third in the evening’s final event, the 400 freestyle relay (3:13.16).
