Men's swim team participates in Ed Kennedy Memorial Meet
The men's swimming team participated in the Ed Kennedy Memorial Meet today at the International Swimming Hall of Fame Pool in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The men finished third overall and were second among nine NCAA Division II and III schools.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The Olivet College men's swimming team participated in the Ed Kennedy Memorial Meet today at the International Swimming Hall of Fame Pool in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The men finished third overall and were second among nine NCAA Division II and III schools.
The meet featured six relays for each gender in a long-course meters format. The Comets had three relays finish in second-place, two placed third and the sixth relay was fourth.
Finishing in second was 200 freestyle team of Brian Fiorillo (Southgate/Anderson), Brock Jackson (Sturgis), Ben Aldrich (DeWitt/St. Johns) and Austin Munn (Pinckney), and their time was 1:41.01. Also placing second was the 150 butterfly team of Rafe Maxwell (Bay City/Western), Josh Mauk (Battle Creek/Lakeview) and Mike Harden (St. Johns), stopping the clock in 1:23.11. The third relay to score second-place points was the 400 freestyle team of Jackson, Fiorillo, Munn and Kellen Beckwith (Farmington Hills/North Farmington) in 3:44.36.
Third-place relays were the 200 medley (Beckwith, Matt Marquette (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix), Joel Knight (Battle Creek/Lakeview) and Harden) at 1:55.83 and 100 backstroke (Knight, Mike Mette (Rockford) and Nick Edgar (Lansing/Everett)) at 1:30.14. Finishing in fourth was the 150 breaststroke trio of Marquette, Mauk and Adam Rhein (Romeo) with a time of 1:43.80.
Olivet is now idle until Friday, Jan. 21 when it swims a non-conference meet at Albion College at 6 p.m.
