Men's swimming and diving team defeats Alma, 104-81
The men’s swimming and diving team defeated MIAA rival Alma, 104-81, today at the McClure Natatorium in Alma.
ALMA, Mich. -- The Olivet College men's swimming and diving team defeated Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Alma College, 104-81, today at the McClure Natatorium in Alma.
The men had eight different individuals win an event and one relay finish in first-place. The freshmen quartet of Ben Aldrich (DeWitt/St. Johns), Adam Rhein (Leonard/Romeo), Tyler Russell (Bay City/Central) and Brian Fiorillo (Southgate/Anderson) touched the wall first in the 200 medley relay (1:42.72). The only athlete to claim the top finishing spot was diver Cody Sanders (Battle Creek/Lakeview), as he scored 288.10 points on the one-meter and 252.10 points on the three-meter.
Recording the fastest times were Kellen Beckwith (Farmington Hills/North Farmington) in the 100 freestyle (:47.97), Fiorillo in the 50 freestyle (:22.39), Joel Knight (Battle Creek/Lakeview) in the 100 backstroke (:59.13), Matt Marquette (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix) in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.98), Rafe Maxwell (Bay City/Western) in the 100 butterfly (:53.16), Austin Munn (Pinckney) in the 200 freestyle (1:48.96) and Russell in the 400 individual medley (4:37.14).
The Comets will return to action next Saturday, Jan. 29, at Kalamazoo College at 1 p.m.
