Day 1 one of MIAA Swimming and Diving Championships in the books
The first day of the 2013 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championships has concluded at the Jenison High School Aquatic Center. Tonight’s events included timed finals in the 800 freestyle relay and preliminaries of the men’s 1-meter diving.
JENISON, Mich. – The first day of the 2013 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championships has concluded at the Jenison High School Aquatic Center. Tonight's events included timed finals in the 800 freestyle relay and preliminaries of the men's 1-meter diving.
In the diving prelims, freshman Troy Wilkins (Lansing/Everett) posted the third-best score with 355.15 total points. The finals for the event will be part of Thursday's evening session.
Both the Comet men's 800 and women's freestyle relays finished in sixth-place. The women's team of Kira Gates (Grosse Ile), Shana Bush (Alma), Kristin Long (Pemberville, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) and Jazmin Johnson (Grand Rapids/Northview) stopped the clock at 8:05.46, which is fourth-best 800 free relay time in school history.
The men's team of Georges Aoun (Barquisimeto, Venezuela/San Vicente de Paul), Jimmy DeRupa (Trenton), Eric Dawdy (Holt) and Ben Aldrich (DeWitt/St. Johns) touched the wall in 7:06.54.
The second day of competition starts tomorrow with preliminaries at 10 a.m., and finals at 5:30 p.m.
