Men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams lose dual meets at Hillsdale
The Olivet College men's and women's swimming and diving teams lost dual meets today at NCAA Division II foe Hillsdale College. The women's team fell to Hillsdale (165-39) and Ohio Northern University (170-44), while the men lost 144-76 to Ohio Northern.
HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming and diving teams lost dual meets today at NCAA Division II foe Hillsdale College. The women's team fell to Hillsdale (165-39) and Ohio Northern University (170-44), while the men lost 144-76 to Ohio Northern.
For the women, senior Milie Funk (Olivet) placed third in the 200 freestyle with a personal-best time of 2:07.60. Her previous best time was 2:09.14. Freshman Allyson Schultz (Traverse City/Central) scored 150.15 points on the one-meter diving board to finish in second-place. Senior Alivia Hammond (Byron Center) was third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.21.
For the men, junior Georges Aoun (Barquisimeto, Venezuela / San Vicente de Paul) won the 200 individual medley in 2:03.90 and was second in the 100 butterfly in 54.01. Sophomore Eric Dawdy (Holt) placed second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.51 seconds. Freshman Trey Jennings (Grand Haven) and sophomore Townsend Montgomery (Fort Gratiot/De La Salle) went second (5:15.07) and third (5:21.25), respectively in the 500 freestyle.
In diving, sophomore Troy Wilkins (Lansing/Everett) posted scores of 276.95 points on the one-meter and 306.75 points on the three-meter to achieve the NCAA cut. He is now eligible to compete at the NCAA Diving Regional in February, with the opportunity to qualify for the NCAA DIII National Championships in March.
The Comets will resume their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association schedule next Saturday when they travel to Grand Rapids to compete against Calvin College. The meet inside the Venema Aquatic Center starts at 1 p.m.
