OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College sophomore Troy Wilkins (Lansing/Everett) has been tabbed the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Athlete of the Week for swimming and diving. He is being honored for the first time in his career.
Wilkins posted NCAA qualifying cuts in both diving events Nov. 9 in a non-conference dual meet against Ohio Northern University. He scored 276.95 points on the one-meter and 306.75 points on three-meter. Wilkins is now eligible to participate in the 2014 NCAA Diving Regional in February, with the chance to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships in March.
"Troy has been working hard in practice to improve the details on his dives, and this past weekend that hard work paid off," said Olivet Head Swimming and Diving Coach Elise Knoche. "He dove really well, and was rewarded by receiving scores on both boards that are above the NCAA qualification marks. We are extremely happy the MIAA has chosen to recognize Troy's efforts on the boards this weekend."
Wilkins and the Comets return to the pool Saturday for a MIAA dual meet at Calvin College, starting at 1 p.m.
