Olivet edged by Earlham, 4-3, in fall finale

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet men's tennis team fell to Earlham (Ind.) College, 4-3, in the final match of its fall schedule today on the Tom Kolassa Tennis Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Quakers won 2-of-3 doubles flight to earn the first team point. Earlham then won at No. 1 and No. 3 singles matches to go up 3-0. The Comets responded with wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles to cut their deficit down to 3-2. The Quakers clinched the win with a victory at No. 4 singles. Olivet won the last match on the court at No. 5 singles. The final two matches were decided in three sets.
FOR THE COMETS
- Junior Ryan Ganger and sophomore Austin Whitney coasted to a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
- Sophomores Lucas Anderson and Alex Jonas lost a close 7-5 match at No. 1 doubles.
- At No. 2 singles, Jonas won 6-3, 6-3.
- At No. 6 singles, freshman Chad Romyak claimed a 6-2, 6-4 win.
- At No. 5 singles, Ganger won the first set, 7-5, before his opponent won the second set, 6-4. Ganger earned a 6-1 win in the third set. He now has nine career singles wins, which is the most by an Olivet player since the men's tennis program was reinstated in 2015.
UP NEXT
- The Comets will resume their schedule in the spring season. Tentatively, the first match is Saturday, February 22, against Manchester (Ind.) University.
