Track and field teams fall to Calvin and Hope in MIAA double dual meet
The Olivet College mens and womens outdoor track/field teams competed this afternoon in a double dual meet at Calvin College. The Lady Comets lost, 140.0-15.0, to Calvin and 138.5-18.5 against Hope College. The Fighting Comets fell 125.0-45.0 and 99.5-50.5 to Calvin and Hope, respectively.

The Lady Comets recorded three top-four finishes. Sophomore Amanda Johnston (Mt. Morris/Genessee High School) was third in the javelin with a 94’10” toss. Sophomore Rebecca Dawson (Williamsburg/Elk Rapids High School) was clocked in at 20:24.51 to finish fourth in the 5000-meter run (20:24.51). Senior Shannon McHugh (Manistique High School) placed fourth in the high jump (4’8”).
The men’s team had nine top-four finishes. Senior Josh Toussaint (Lansing Sexton High School) led the way with second-place finishes in the 100 and 200-meter dashes with times of 11.31 and 23.00 seconds, respectively. The 4x100-meter relay was second (44.00 seconds).
Freshman Andy Storey (Battle Creek/Harper Creek High School) was second in the javelin with a 151’9” toss. Freshman Robert Horton, Jr. (Charlotte High School) had a pair of top-three finishes – second in shot put (45’4.5”) and third in the discus throw (141’7”).
Freshman Casey Redfield (Shepard High School) was third in the 400-meter run with a time of 53.48 seconds. Freshman Andy Weiss (Fremont High School) recorded fourth-place finishes in the high jump and pole vault. He cleared the high jump bar at 5’4” and the pole vault bar at 11’0”.
Olivet will next compete at the Hillsdale College Gina Relays on Thursday-Saturday, April 22-24.
