Track and field teams finish in fifth-place at 2007 MIAA Field Day
The Olivet College men’s and women’s track/field teams finished in fifth-place at the 2007 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Field Day, which was hosted by Calvin College. The men’s team tallied 56 points, which was only one point more than sixth-place Alma College. The women’s team had 27 points.

On the men's side, Olivet recorded 16 top-eight finishes. The highest finish was by senior Bobby Horton (Charlotte) in the discus throw. He had a 42.73 meter toss to finish in second-place. He also took fourth-place finish in the shot put with a 14.56 meter toss. In other field events, freshman Blake Walters (Olivet) and sophomore Nick Wolf (Olivet) were each fifth in the javelin throw and pole vault, respectively. Walters threw the javelin 46.87 meters, while Wolf cleared the pole vault bar at 3.80 meters. Freshman Brandon Satterfield (Battle Creek/Central) had a pair of top-eight finishes. He was third in the long jump (6.67 meter) and tied for sixth in the high jump (1.76 meters).
The rest of the Comets' top-eight finishers were on the track. In the 100-meter dash, freshman Pat Clasgens (Livonia/Stevenson) and senior DeShaun Warren (Detroit/Denby) finished fifth and eighth, respectively. Clasgens clocked in at 11.43 seconds, while Warren clocked in at 11.60 seconds. Warren also placed eighth in the 200-meter dash (:23.38). Senior Randy Place (Bellevue) and freshman Dante Carroll (Capital Heights, Md./Fairmont Heights) crossed the line in sixth- and seventh-place, respectively in the 400-meter dash with times of :51.58 and :51.71.
In the 110-meter high hurdles, sophomore Lonnie White (Battle Creek/Central) placed fifth (:16.07) and freshman Matt Stears (Constantine) was eighth (:16.73). Sophomore Thomas Ray (Constantine) ran to an eighth-place finish in the 10,000-meter run (34:49.56). Olivet's 4x100-meter relay took third-place (:43.16) and the 4x400-meter relay was fifth (3:27.56).
The women's team had six top-eight finishes. The top finisher was senior Courtney Ivan (Belleville), who placed third in the javelin with a 34.31 meter throw. On the track, freshman Jami Acker (Escanaba) was fourth in the 100-meter dash (:13.20) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (:26.90). Sophomore Tami Cahow (Climax/ Climax-Scotts) moved up one spot from her preliminary seed time to finish in seventh-place in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles (1:15.11). Both the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays crossed the line in fourth-place. The 4x100 clocked in at 53.50 seconds, while the 4x400 clocked in at 4:26.49.
