Men’s and women’s indoor track/field teams finish in fifth and sixth-place at Trine Invitational
Led by three first-place finishes, the Olivet College men's and women's indoor track and field teams finished in fifth- and sixth-place respectively at the Trine University Invitational #1 today at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center in Angola, Ind. The men's team collected 51 team points, while the women had 45 points.
ANGOLA, Ind. – Led by three first-place finishes, the Olivet College men's and women's indoor track and field teams finished in fifth- and sixth-place respectively at the Trine University Invitational #1 today at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center in Angola, Ind. The men's team collected 51 team points, while the women had 45 points.
For the women, sophomore Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) won the weight throw with a 43 feet, 11.75 inch throw, which broke her own school record. She also posted a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a 35 feet, 7.75 inch toss. Sophomore Katie Thelen (St. Johns) was third in the weight throw (43 feet, 4.50 inches).
On the track, junior Becca Gaarde (Parma/Western) was fifth in both the 200-meter dash at 28.24 seconds and 60-meter hurdles at 10.49 seconds. Sophomore Jenna Mayle (Ionia) was fifth in the 600-meter run at 1:54.63.
Leading the way for the men was freshman Henry Pettway (East Lansing) who won the 60-meter dash. He had identical times of 7.22 seconds in the preliminaries and finals. Pettway also placed fourth in the 200-meter dash at 23.96 seconds. Freshman Jalen Weaver (Albion) took first-place in the 600-meter run at 1:27.33.
Freshman Billyle Alman (Lansing/Okemos) finished in fourth-place in the 400-meter dash at 54.40 seconds. Freshman Greg Lutzke (Williamston) placed fourth in the mile run at 4:50.30. Also finishing in fourth was freshman Jacob Bramen (Edmore/Central Montcalm) in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.74 seconds. He was faster in the prelims at 9.59 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay finished in third-place at 3:41.83.
Olivet returns to Angola next Friday night for another indoor meet, starting at 4 p.m.
