Indoor track and field teams win three events at Defiance Open Meet
The Olivet College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams combined for three first-place finishes and five second-place finishes today at the Defiance College Open Meet.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Olivet College men's and women's indoor track and field teams combined for three first-place finishes and five second-place finishes today at the Defiance College Open Meet.
Men
On the men's side, freshman Travon Tatum (Battle Creek/Lakeview) won the long jump with a 6.32 meter jump. Sophomore Henry Pettway (East Lansing) was right behind him with a second-place finish and 6.20 meter jump. He also had a solid performance on the track, finishing third in both the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.25 seconds and 200-meter dash with a time of 23.61 seconds.
Sophomore Billyle Alman (Lansing/Okemos) was the runner-up finisher in the 400-meter dash in 53.07 seconds. Junior Jalen Weaver (Albion) placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.87. The 4x400 relay finished fourth in 3:35.35.
Women
On the women's side, sophomore Cassie Ciaravino (Lapeer/East) had two of the first-place finishes for Olivet. She tied her own school record and won by more than one-half second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.51 seconds. Ciaravino also took first-place in the long jump with a 5.15m leap.
Also on the track, junior Jenna Mayle (Ionia) was fourth in both the 600-meter run (1:47.94) and 60-meter hurdles (10.37). The 4x200 relay placed second with a time of 2:00.87, while the 4x400 relay was fourth with a time of 4:30.84.
In the field events, junior Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) finished second in the shot put (11.48m) and fourth in the weight throw (13.15m). Freshman Lauren Easton (Jackson/Parma Western) tied for fourth-place in the pole vault, clearing 2.46 meters.
Olivet will next compete Friday, Feb. 15, at the Trine University Invitational.
