Track and field teams compete at Adrian All-American Invitational
The Olivet College men's and women's track and field teams competed today at the unscored Adrian College All-American Invitational. The meet featured athletes from Cornerstone University, Bowling Green State (Ohio) University, Wayne State University, Defiance (Ohio) College and the host Bulldogs.
ADRIAN, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's track and field teams competed today at the unscored Adrian College All-American Invitational. The meet featured athletes from Cornerstone University, Bowling Green State (Ohio) University, Wayne State University, Defiance (Ohio) College and the host Bulldogs.
Men
The men's team had two event winners. Freshman Demetrius Washington (Berrien Springs) won the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.28 seconds. He also ran the second leg of the winning 4x100-meter relay. Joining Washington on the relay were sophomore Henry Pettway (East Lansing), sophomore Billyle Alman (Lansing/Okemos) and freshman Damien Johnson (Battle Creek/Central), and their time was 43.51 seconds.
Olivet also had three runner-up finishers, Johnson in the 100-meter dash (11.84), Pettway in the long jump (6.46m) and freshman Tyshyn Mildton (Lansing/Eastern) in the triple jump (11.97m). Finishing in third-place were Alman in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.57) and sophomore Andrew Benkovsky (Eaton Rapids) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:04.72).
The Comets host the 2013 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree next Saturday, April 13. The event starts at 10 a.m.
Women
The Comets were led by sophomore Cassie Ciaravino (Lapeer/East), who was a double winner and anchored the second-place 4x100-meter relay. She took first-place in in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.69 seconds and the long jump with a school-record 5.40 meter leap. Ciaravino joined with junior Jenna Mayle (Ionia), freshman Charlene MacKenzie (Albion) and junior Rachael Wagner (Clinton Twp./Fraser) on the relay, and their time was 54.08 seconds.
Junior Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) placed in the top four in three field events. She was second in the shot put (11.55m), third in the hammer throw (39.25m) and fourth in the discus throw (34.45m).
