Track: Weaver places sixth, earns All-American honors in 800m run
Olivet College senior Jalen Weaver finished in sixth-place in the 800-meter run at the 2015 NCAA Division III National Indoor Track & Field Championships.
WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – Olivet College senior Jalen Weaver finished in sixth-place in the 800-meter run at the 2015 NCAA Division III National Indoor Track & Field Championships. With the performance, he becomes the first-ever Olivet indoor track & field athlete to earn All-American honors, a top eight finish at the indoor championships.
In addition, Weaver is the first track & field athlete since 1984 to earn All-American honors. Stan Baker was an All-American after placing second in the 100-meter dash at the 1984 NCAA DIII Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Weaver ran the race in one minute and 55.10 seconds. He advanced to the finals after running a school-record time of 1:53.15 in Friday's preliminary race, which was the second-fastest time. Mitchell Black from Tufts (Mass.) University is the NCAA DIII champion in the race at 1:51.94.
The 2015 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships were hosted by Roanoke College at JDL Fast Track. Weaver was one of 14 runners to compete in the 800-meter run.
Weaver and the rest of the Comets are scheduled to open the outdoor portion of their schedule Saturday, March 28, at the Defiance (Ohio) College Dick Small Invitational.
