HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Olivet College senior Jordon Brown has been named the 2023 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Indoor Most Valuable Male Track Athlete.
Brown captured the league title in the 200- and 400-meter dashes at the 2023 MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championship. He achieved a school record time of 22.07 seconds in the 200, and finished the 400 in 49.33 seconds. Brown was third in the long jump (21 feet, 2 inches) and ran the anchor leg of the fourth-place 4x400-meter relay.
Brown is the first Olivet student-athlete to earn MIAA Indoor Most Valuable Athlete honors and only the fifth to be the Most Valuable Athlete in the sport of track & field. The others were in outdoor track and field – Ron Hobday (1982), Bob Condon (1976), Pat Peregoy (1978 and 1980) and James Jackson (1982).
"Jordon has matured this year as an athlete and a competitor and has run personal best times in every race distance this indoor season," said Olivet head coach Karen Lutzke. "At the MIAA meet, Jordon executed all his races following the race plans that Coach Gatson and Jordon developed. Through Jordon's career, he has continued to develop as a leader on the team. He has always been passionate about competing and that carries over to others daily. If he is not in a race, he is cheering and supporting his teammates. I have been coaching a long time and have seen very few athletes with the ability to raise up their teammates with his passion for track and field."
