UOlivet has record-setting day at Hillsdale Wide Track Classic

HILLSDALE, Mich. – The University of Olivet indoor track and field teams posted two school records and three orher all-time Top 10 performances at the Hillsdale College Wide Track Classic and inside the Margot Biermann Athletic Center.
For the men, sophomore Alexander Brown was third in the pole vault, with a school-record clearance of 15 feet and 4-1/4 inches. His mark is No. 17 on the NCAA Division III Performance list. In the shot put, junior Owen Fremeau set a school record with a throw of 56 feet and 2 inches to finish second in the event and climb into a tie for second on the NCAA DIII Performance list. Fremeau also finished fourth in the weight throw (57 feet, 3-1/2 inches).
The trio of juniors Brenden Castillo and Deegan Bodell, and freshman Owen Lambarth all ran personal bests in the mile with times of 4:40.69, 4:43.74 and 4:56.64, respectively. Senior Ben Gillesby completed the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 2:20.28. Freshman Aiden Coggins had a personal best in the 60-meter dash (7.22 seconds).
Each of the freshmen throwers had at least one personal best mark. Drew Wojciechowski posted bests in both the shot put (38 feet, 10-1/4 inches) and weight throw (41 feet, 3 inches). Elijah Cottrell and Alexander Crabtree set personal bests in the shot put at 39 feet, 3-1/4 inches and 38 feet, 4-1/4 inches, respectively. Jacob Duncan and Dom Monroe recorded personal bests in the weight throw at 37 feet, 10 inches and 35 feet, 3-3/4 inches, respectively. Sophomore Yrral Campbell and junior Austin Colee had season-bests in the shot put (43 feet, 9-3/4 inches) and weight throw (41 feet, 1/4 inch), respectively.
For the women, sophomore Aurali Garcia cleared the high jump bar at 4 feet, 10-1/2 inches, which was a personal best and fifth on the UOlivet all-time top 10 list. Sophomore Lily Russell set a personal best and moved up to fourth all-time in the weight throw with a mark of 44 feet, 1-1/4 inches.
Freshman Landry Gomez ran a personal best in the 800-meter run (2:45.79). Freshmen Abby Dice and Avery Lopez achieved personal bests in the mile run with times of 6:15.71 and 6:19.11, respectively.
Junior Ellie Baynes became the 10th women in UOlivet history to run the 60-meter hurdles, finishing the race in 11.48 seconds. She also posted a personal best in the shot put (26 feet, 1/4 inches). Freshman Zoe Watson recorded a personal best mark of 28 feet, 3-3/4 inches in the shot put. Junior Joey Wilson leaped 4 feet, 8-3/4 inches in the high jump for a season-best performance.
Olivet will participate in the Saginaw Valley State University Jets Pizza Invitational next Friday-Saturday, January 30-31.
