ALL-AMERICAN!! UOlivet’s Fremeau finishes third in weight throw at NCAA Championships
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Olivet junior Owen Fremeau finished third in the weight throw to earn All-American honors at the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships this morning at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Fremeau's first attempt covered 58 feet and 1/2 inch to sit in 11th-place. After a foul on the second attempt, he fouled to slip down to 14th-place. Fremeau then unleashed a 63 foot and 1/4 inch toss on his third attempt to move into third place. The mark held up through the finals.
Fremeau's third place performance is the best finish by an Olivet student-athlete at the NCAA DIII Indoor Championships. Furthermore, it's the highest finish at an NCAA Track & Field Championships since 1984 when Stan Baker tied for second in the 100-meter dash at the outdoor championships. It ties for the best finish in school history in a field event, as John Allen placed third in the high jump at both the 1975 and 1976 outdoor championships.
Fremeau competes tomorrow in the shot put, starting at 12 p.m. ET.
