Fremeau named USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The University of Olivet junior Owen Fremeau has been named the 2026 Great Lakes Region Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of Year, according to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Fremeau earned All-American First Team honors throwing events at the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He won the hammer throw and placed sixth in the discus throw and seventh in the shot put. Fremeau holds the UOlivet record in each of the three events – 209 feet and 5 inches in the hammer, 177 feet and 4 inches in the discus and 58 feet and 10-3/4 inches in the shot put.
"During the last year, Owen grew as an athlete and as a person," said Olivet head coach Karen Lutzke. "He worked hard every day to be the best version of himself that he can be at that moment in time. Owen earned his national championship and All-American honors by taking it one throw at a time and just working on the changes Coach (Daustin) Martin asked him to make."
This honor is the latest in a growing list of accolades earned for Fremeau this season. He was named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Most Valuable Field Athlete after both the indoor and outdoor championships, winning five total events across the two championships. Fremeau earned NCAA All-American First Team honors after placing third in the weight throw and fourth in the shot put at the 2026 NCAA DIII Indoor Track & Field Championships. He is the UOlivet record holder in the indoor and outdoor shot put, indoor weight throw, outdoor discus throw and outdoor hammer throw. Fremeau was named to the USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region Indoor and Outdoor teams.
