UOlivet tripped up at Wisconsin Lutheran in four sets

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The University of Olivet men's volleyball team was on the losing end of a four-set loss to Wisconsin Lutheran College tonight at the Time of Grace Center. The Warriors won the first set, 25-22, before the Comets took the second by a matching 25-22 score. WLC ended the match with wins in the next two sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Warriors scored the first two points, the Comets scored five of the next six points to gain a 5-3 lead. Olivet maintained its lead until WLC came back to level the score at 9-9, 10-10 and 11-11. Three straight Warrior points put them ahead, 14-11. WLC extended its lead to as many as five points on three occasions. Following the third time at 19-14, the Comets used a 5-1 spurt to close the gap to a single point, 20-19. Olivet did not get any closer the remainder of the set.
- There were three tied scores in the first six points of the second set. After a 3-3 deadlock, the Warriors went on a 6-1 run to take a 9-4 lead. The Comets chipped away at their deficit and eventually evened the score, 19-19. The run forced WLC to call a timeout. Olivet ended the set with a 6-3 burst to win the set, 25-22.
- The start of the third set was like the first, with multiple ties early. Following a 4-4 score, the Warriors put the next four points on the scoreboard. WLC pushed its lead to five points twice, 15-10 and 16-11. The Comets fought back to make the difference be just one point, 18-17. The Warriors had a 7-3 run to win the set 25-20.
- WLC led the fourth set from start-to-finish.
- For the match, Olivet had 41 kills, while the Warriors tallied 44. The two differences in the match were WLC posted a higher attack percentage (.222 to .152) and recorded five more service aces (10 to 5).
FOR THE COMETS
- Freshman Silas Martin pounded down a team-best 14 kills.
- Sophomore Aiden Chamblee registered nine kills, with only one error on 20 attempts for a .400 hitting percentage.
- Sophomores Amarion Lawson and Ke'Shon Johnson were next with eight and six kills, respectively.
- Senior Will Mensching finished with team-highs in set assists (30) and digs (eight).
UP NEXT
- Olivet plays a tri-match tomorrow at Adrian College. The Comets face Maranatha Baptist (Wis.) University at 1 p.m., followed by a match against the host Bulldogs at approximately 3 p.m.
