UOlivet downed by Calvin in four sets

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet men's volleyball team lost a four-set match to Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) rival Calvin University tonight at the Cutler Event Center.
THE BASICS
- Final Score: Calvin defeated Olivet 25-18, 25-13, 31-33, 25-20

- Records: Olivet 2-18 overall, 0-6 MCVL; Calvin 7-15 overall, 1-4 MCVL
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first set, the Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Olivet fought back to even the score on three occasions (12-12, 13-13, 14-14). Calvin scored the next two points and held the lead for the rest of the set.
- Down 3-2 in the second set, the Knights went on a 5-0 run for a 7-3 advantage. Calvin did not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the set.
- In the third set, the Knights led 8-3. Olivet then used four straight kills and Calvin attack error to tie the score. The Knights regained a two-point lead, 13-11, before the Comets took advantage of four Calvin errors to go up 15-13. The teams traded points until the Knights seized a two-point lead three times. Following the third time at 22-20, Olivet had back-to-back kills to level the score.
- Calvin got to set and match points on six occasions but each time, Olivet scored a point to even the score. The Comets used back-to-back kills to take a 30-29 lead. A Comet service error tied the score. The teams exchanged kills to make the score 31-31. Freshman Silas Martin slammed down a kill before teamed with sophomore Tyler Batt on a block at the net to hand the set to Olivet, 33-31.
- The Comets carried the momentum into the fourth set and built a 6-4 lead. The Knights scored the next six points to take a 10-6 lead. Olivet fought back and eventually took a pair of one-point leads, 17-16 and 18-17. Calvin scored eight of the final 11 points of the set to win it, 25-20.
FOR THE COMETS
- Martin recorded a match-high 17 kills.
- Sophomore Aiden Chamblee joined him in double digits with 10 kills.
- Senior Will Mensching dished out 23 set assists.
- Junior Matthew Tollar collected a match-best 16 digs.

- Olivet celebrates Senior Day tomorrow when it hosts Trine (Ind.) University at 1 p.m. Prior to the match, the Comets will recognize their two seniors who will be playing in their final home match.
