Softball Team Splits Doubleheader Against Hillsdale College in its Home Opener
The Olivet College softball team split a doubleheader against Hillsdale College today in its home opener. The Lady Comets fell to the Chargers, 7-3, in the first game, and rallied to win the second game, 6-5.

OLIVET, Mich. -- The Olivet College softball team split a doubleheader against Hillsdale College today in its home opener. The Lady Comets fell to the Chargers, 7-3, in the first game, and rallied to win the second game, 6-5.
In the first game, Olivet jumped out to a 3-1 lead after four innings. Hillsdale scored four runs in the fifth inning and added two more runs in the sixth. Juniors Theresa Flowers (Watterford/Kettering High School), Kim Horanburg (Grand Ledge High School) and Kari Munson (Lansing Eastern High School) led the Comets at the plate with two hits apiece. Both Horanburg and Munson also scored a run and drove in a run. Junior Stacey Dulinski (Manistee High School) pitched the first five innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out two batters.
In the second game, the Comets scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning for the win. Flowers started the rally with a double to left field. Senior Jeana Turcheck (Taylor Truman High School) pinch ran for Flowers and scored the first run on a single by junior Jenna Little (Ortonville/Brandon High School). Sophomore Jill Shufelt (Millington High School) had a base hit, moving Little to third base. Little then scored the go-ahead run on a double steal with Shufelt moving to third on an error by the catcher. Shufelt scored the next run on a wild pitch.
Shufelt led the attack with three singles. Flowers, Horanburg and Munson each had a single and double. Little also had two base hits. Freshman Erica Anderson (Casnovia/Kent City High School) improved to 3-3 on the season with a complete game, seven-hitter. She allowed two earned runs and struck out two batters.
The Comets will next play tomorrow, March 27, when they host Siena Heights University in a non-league doubleheader at 3 p.m.
