Softball Team Splits Doubleheader Against Calvin
The Olivet College softball team split a doubleheader today against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Calvin College. The Lady Comets lost the first game, 4-0, and rebounded to win the second game, 10-1.

OLIVET, Mich. -- The Olivet College softball team split a doubleheader today against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Calvin College. The Lady Comets lost the first game, 4-0, and rebounded to win the second game, 10-1.
In the first, Olivet (12-13, 6-3 MIAA) managed only four base hits, including a double by junior first baseman Kim Horanburg (Grand Ledge High School). Junior Stacey Dulinski (Manistee High School) suffered her first league loss as she pitched all seven innings, allowing eight base hits and four runs (three earned). She struck out a single game season-high six batters.
In the second game, the Comets scored five runs with two outs in the first inning on a two-run double by junior catcher Theresa Flowers (Waterford/ Kettering High School) and a three-run double by senior left fielder Jamie Hinkle (Rossford High School). Olivet tallied a single run in the fifth inning and put the game away with four runs in the sixth. The game was called after six innings because of the eight-run mercy rule.
At the plate, Flowers was three-for-four with a single, two doubles, three runs scored and three runs batted-in. Horanburg, senior shortstop Amy Hillis (Morley High School) and senior third baseman Jesse Wrzesinski (Manistee High School) had two hits a piece. Horanburg drove in two runs and Wrzesinski scored two runs. Hinkle also had three RBI for the Comets.
Freshman Erica Anderson (Casnovia/Kent City High School) pitched a complete game three-hitter. She allowed an earned run and struck out three batters.
Olivet will continue MIAA play on Monday, April 21, when it travels to play Alma College in a rescheduled doubleheader. The first game of the doubleheader will start at 1 p.m. The Lady Comets are currently one-half game behind Hope College in the MIAA standings. Alma is first with a 6-2 league mark, Hope is second at 7-3 and Olivet is third at 6-3.
