Softball Team Finishes in Second Place at the 2003 MIAA Tournament
The Olivet College softball team finished in second place today at the 2003 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament at Alma College. The Lady Comets fell to Alma 2-1 in the championship game. Olivet advanced to the championship contest after defeating Albion College 2-1 earlier in the day.

ALMA, Mich. – The Olivet College softball team finished in second place today at the 2003 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament at Alma College. The Lady Comets fell to Alma 2-1 in the championship game. Olivet advanced to the championship contest after defeating Albion College 2-1 earlier in the day.
The Comets end the 2003 season with a 19-19 overall record, which marks only the seventh time since 1979 that the softball team had a .500 or better record.
Against Albion, Olivet (19-19) scored its two runs in the third inning on back-to-back doubles by juniors Kim Horanburg (Grand Ledge High School) and Theresa Flowers (Waterford Kettering High School). The Brits scored its run in the sixth inning and threatened to tie score, leaving the bases loaded in the sixth inning.
Senior Amy Hillis (Morley High School) and juniors Jenna Little (Ortonville Brandon High School) and Taneisha Pointer (Lansing Everett High School) also had base hits for the Comets. Junior Stacey Dulinski (Manistee High School) pitched seven innings, allowing four base hits and an earned run.
In the championship game, Alma scored its first run in the fourth inning on a home run. Flowers tied the game in the sixth inning with a homer. The Scots won the game with a two-out single in the seventh inning.
Flowers was two-for-two and freshman Amanda Johnston (Mt. Morris/Genesee High School) was two-for-three. Little and senior Corrie Champine (Clare High School) also had base hits and junior Larissa Kequom (Charlotte High School) hit a pinch-hit single.
Freshman Erica Anderson (Casnovia/Kent City High School) went the distance in the pitcher's circle. She allowed 10 base hits as Alma left 11 runners on base.
