ADRIAN, Mich. – The Olivet College softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Adrian College today at the A.C. Softball Field. Adrian, ranked No. 13 in the most recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III poll, won by scores of 12-4 and 10-2 and both games ended after five innings because the mercy rule was invoked.
In the opener, the Bulldogs scored three runs in the first and five in the second to take an 8-0 lead. Olivet cut its deficit in half with a four-run third inning. Freshman Terri Hurosky (Nashville/Maple Valley) led off with a double and scored on a double by freshman Alyssa Nielsen (Greenville). After junior Kelsey Greene (Burr Oak) walked, junior Brooke Coshow (Niles/Brandywine) hit her sixth home run of the season. Adrian closed the scoring with two runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
The Comets were held to just their three hits in the third inning. Senior Katie Harper (Vassar) was tagged with the loss, as she allowed all 12 runs on 16 hits. She struck out three and walked one.

Coshow broke up Kelly Eberhardt's no-hitter in the bottom half of the fourth with a single to leftfield. Later in the inning, Olivet had the bases loaded but a sharply hit line drive back to the pitcher resulted in a double play and ended its scoring threat. The Bulldogs capped their scoring with two runs in the fifth.
The Comets dented the scoreboard with two runs in their half of the fifth inning. Hurosky hit a double to score junior Bridget Lathers (Grass Lake/Lumen Christi), who started the inning with a single and went to second base on a groundout. Hurosky advanced to third on a groundout and scored on an error by the Adrian shortstop.
Olivet was held to four hits, with four different players each having one hit. In the circle, Greene suffered the loss. She gave up eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits in three and two-third innings. Sophomore Breanne Harmon (Quincy) finished the game in relief and allowed two runs on three hits.
The Comets are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Saint Mary's (Ind.) College Saturday afternoon, starting at 1 p.m.
