Softball team suffers doubleheader sweep to Trine, 9-1 and 5-0
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College softball team was swept by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) leader Trine (Ind.) University in a doubleheader, 9-0 and 5-1 this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College softball team was swept by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) leader Trine (Ind.) University in a doubleheader, 9-0 and 5-1 this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex.

Records: Olivet 1-21 overall, 0-12 MIAA; Trine 24-6 overall, 10-0 MIAA
- The Thunder came out swinging, as they scored six runs on six hits in the first inning.
- Trine added two more runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth inning.
- The Comets scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning when sophomore Erin Brady hit an RBI-single to score sophomore Jessica Barnes.
- Olivet totaled four hits in the game, all four were singles.
- In addition to Brady's single, senior Kayla Blett, junior Karina Marin and freshman Sarah Shevenell each had one hit.
- Freshman Katie Lenz was the losing pitcher after allowing the six first-inning runs.
- Shevenell pitched four innings of relief, giving up three runs on six hits.
- At the plate, Mercede Daugherty went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
- Ashley Swartout had two hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs.
- Scarlett Elliott also collected a pair of RBI.
- Anna Koeppl went the distance in the circle, scattering the four hits and striking out four.
- Trine pushed across three runs in the third inning and one run in both the fifth and sixth innings.
- Olivet had at least base runner in four of the seven inning.
- Olivet recorded five hits.
- The only extra base hit was a double by senior Kaylee Clothier.
- The remaining four hits were singles by Barnes, Blett, senior Paige Poulter and junior Amber Trudeau.
- In the circle, Shevenell threw six innings and allowed the five runs (three earned) on seven hits to be charged with the loss.
- Daugherty and Victoria Porter each tallied two hits.
- Daugherty drove in two runs.
- Lauren Clausen was the winning pitcher, and Adrienne Rosey picked-up the save. Clausen tossed the first four innings and allowed four hits. Rosey threw the last three innings and gave up one hit.
- Today's games were the final home contests for its four seniors – Kayla Blett, Kaylee Clothier, Paige Poulter and Kassidy Zmikly.
- The Comets travel to play Kalamazoo College Saturday for a MIAA doubleheader, starting at 1 p.m.
