OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet softball team was shut out twice by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Calvin University, 9-0 and 8-0, in a twinbill today at the Cutler Athletic Complex.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Knights raced out to a 5-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first and third innings, and one run in the fourth inning. Meanwhile, Calvin starting pitcher Brooke Hunderman did not allow a base runner until the fourth inning when freshman Alisha Gahn hit a single up the middle. The Knights added to their lead with four runs in the seventh. Sophomore Alexis Bond reached on an infield single in the bottom of the seventh.
- At the plate, Olivet recorded only two hits. In the circle, freshman Cayla Konop suffered the loss after surrendering eight runs (five earned) on eight hits, while striking out four in six and one-third innings.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Calvin sent 10 batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the second inning. The Knights ended the scoring with a single tally in the sixth to invoke the eight-run mercy rule ending.
- Bond recorded both hits for the Comets. The only other base runner in the game was a walk issued to junior Shaelyn Lampinen. Senior Briana Gitchell was charged with the pitching loss after yielding four runs on three hits over one and one-third innings. Gahn pitched the final three and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs on seven hits.
UP NEXT
- The Comets are on the road next Tuesday, April 22, to play Trine (Ind.) University. The first pitch from game one of the doubleheader is slated to start at 3 p.m.
