UOlivet drops non-conference doubleheader at Cleary

HOWELL, Mich. – The University of Olivet softball team dropped both games of a non-league doubleheader at Cleary University, 8-1 and 8-2, today at Lake Trust Stadium.
THE BASICS

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Cougars scored three runs in the first inning before adding a run in the third and two more runs in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead. Olivet dented the scoreboard in the sixth inning. Senior Corina Hernandez hit a leadoff single and came around to score on junior Alexis Bond's RBI-double to the right-center field gap. Cleary capped the scoring with two runs in the home half of the sixth inning.
- The Comets ended the game with five hits. The extra-base hits were Bond's double and a double by freshman Jordan Reed in the fifth inning. In the circle, freshman Elliott Jarvi started and allowed all eight runs on 12 hits and three walks over five innings. Sophomore Alisha Gahn gave up one hit and one walk in one inning.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Comets scored a run in top of first inning when Bond hit an RBI-single to score Hernandez. The Cougars tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. Cleary then batted through its lineup and erupted for six runs in the second inning. Olivet plated its second run in the third on an RBI-single by Hernandez. The Cougars tallied their last run in the fifth inning.
- For the game, Olivet recorded four hits. Hernandez was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. In the circle, sophomore Megan Cox suffered the loss. She surrendered eight runs (five earned) on nine hits over six innings.
UP NEXT
- The Comets head to Indiana this weekend for a pair of doubleheaders. The Comets face Earlham College tomorrow and Franklin College on Sunday. Both doubleheaders get started at 1 p.m.
