UOlivet defeated in two run-rule games at Baldwin Wallace

BEREA, Ohio – The University of Olivet softball team fell in two run-rule games, 11-2 and 15-7, against Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University this afternoon at the BW Softball Field and inside the Roehm Athletic Complex.
THE BASICS

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Yellow Jackets scored one run in the first inning, two runs in the second and one run in the third to take a 4-0 lead. The Comets got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning when freshman Jo Ellen Holbrook scored on a throwing error by the catcher on a pickoff attempt with the bases load. BW took control of the game with seven runs in the home half of the fourth. Olivet pushed across its last run in the fifth. Junior Kaitlyn Witkowski went all the way to third base to a throwing error by the pitcher. Junior Haylie Wenke lined a single up the middle to score Witkowski.
- The Comets finished the game with just three hits, all singles by Wenke, sophomore Alisha Gahn and senior Shaelyn Lampinen. In the circle, Gahn was the losing pitcher. She gave up the 11 runs on 11 hits and five walks.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- After the Yellow Jackets scored five runs in the bottom of the first, Olivet matched them with five runs in the top of the second inning. Freshman Elliott Jarvi drove in the first run with an RBI-single, followed by two-run single by senior Corina Hernandez and an RBI-groundout by Wenke.
- BW immediately answered with five runs in its half of the second. The big hit of the inning was a three-run homer. The Comets cut their deficit down to three runs, 10-7, when Holbrook hit a two-run home over the left field fence. The Yellow Jackets ended the game with two runs in the bottom of the third and three runs in the fourth.
- Olivet recorded eight hits, including a 2-for-2 performance by freshman Jordan Reed. Holbrook also had two hits to go along with two runs and two RBI. Jarvi was charged with the pitching loss after allowing 15 runs on 14 hits and seven walks.
UP NEXT
- The Comets are scheduled to host Alma College on Saturday for their home and Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opening doubleheader. The first pitch from game one is set for 1 p.m.
