UOlivet upended by Trine in MIAA doubleheader

ANGOLA, Ind. – The University of Olivet softball team was swept by defending Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and NCAA Division III champion Trine University (Ind.), 22-2 and 16-1, this afternoon at SportONE/Parkview Softball Field. Trine is ranked No. 2 in this week's National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top 25 poll.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Thunder led 11-0 behind seven runs in the first inning, three runs in the second and one run in the fourth. Meanwhile, Trine's Debbie Hill had a perfect game through the first three and one-third innings.
- Senior Corina Hernandez was the first Comet to reach base with a single into shallow right-center field. Sophomore Alisha Gahn blooped a double under the left fielder's glove to put two runners in scoring position against the reigning NFCA All-American. Freshman Jo Ellen Holbrook ripped the first pitch of her at-bat into right field to score Hernandez.
- The Thunder capped their scoring with 11 runs in the fourth inning.
- Olivet manufactured a run in the fifth inning. Junior Morgan Rachow lined a hit off the pitcher's foot. Junior Olivia Burt advanced her to second base with a sacrifice bunt. Junior Haylie Wenke hit an RBI-single to score Rachow.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Trine took a 16-0 lead after scoring a run in the first inning, and five runs in third, fourth and fifth innings. The Comets scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman Mya Wiggins walked and sophomore Kyleigh Ramos ran for her. Senior Shaelyn Lampinen roped a double into center field to score Ramos.
UP NEXT
- Olivet hosts Albion College on Saturday. First pitch from game one of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. Saturday will be a busy day at the Cutler Athletic Complex, as the Comet baseball team hosts Adrian and the men's and women's tennis teams also host Adrian. All four events will be going on at the same time. Overflow parking for the events will be in the grass lot across from the football field.
